There are three main styles to parenting; Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive and Negelctful. Authoritarian parents exhibit high control and low warmth. Authoritative parents exhibit high control and high warmth. Neglectful parents exhibit low control and low warmth. Permissive parents exhibit high warmth but low control. Two important factors of good parenting are parental responsiveness and parental demandingness. Parents should keep a good balance of these and keep in mind their child’s interests and own needs. Although children, and especially adolescents, need parental guidance and structured rules they also need to be shown love and respect from the people that matter the most to them, their parents. | ![]() |
